Day 11 : Richmond to Ingleby Cross : 38km
Farewell to the pretty and hilly Richmond and out in one leap across the northern extension of the Vale of York, known locally as the Vale of Mowbray. A flat fertile plain given over to farming and nowhere above 100 metres. With few ramblers or tourists the public footpaths and accommodation are scarce. So this is going to be a long, long day spent largely walking on roads and lanes in order to reach the other side of the vale, where the terrain gets more interesting again, most quickly.
